About the show
Everybody gets the wish they came for. Then the second act arrives.
A baker and his wife want a child. A witch next door will lift the curse standing in their way, but only if they bring her four specific things inside three days. Finding those things drags them straight into everyone else's story: Cinderella running from a prince, Jack trading a cow for beans, Little Red Riding Hood taking a shortcut she was warned about, Rapunzel stuck in a tower with an unreasonable amount of hair.
By the end of the first act, the bargains have all been struck and every character has what they asked for. Then the show does the thing it is famous for and keeps going. The second act is about consequences, the ones nobody negotiated for, and about what people owe each other once the happy ending stops holding.
Stephen Sondheim's score and James Lapine's book turn a pile of familiar fairy tales into something considerably sharper, funny and then quietly devastating, with one of the most demanding ensemble scores in the repertoire. Into the Woods was our spring 2026 production.
